Activities

The Brazilian Society of Cardiology (SBC) has 12 scientific departments and 10 study groups, as well as an organisation in 26 regional societies throughout Brazil.

A Fund for the Improvement of Cardiological Research (FUNCOR) is based in Sao Paulo which fosters both the scientific-technological improvement and research in cardiology, and also advises the general public on the scientific aspects of cardiovascular disease, by indicating its inherent risks and informing as to its prevention and treatment.

The SBC has a CPR training center in Sao Paulo and another training facility in Rio de Janeiro.

The website of the SBC has both a section for professionals and one for the general public, Heart on-line. The latter includes a service where a panel of doctors reply to questions from the Brazilian population on subjects concerning cardiology.

Since 1999, the project "Heart TV" has existed with approximately 40 30-minute programmes each year. The presenter, who is a doctor, receives cardiologists as guests and discusses relevant cardiology topics.
