The case
A 44-year-old male presents at the hospital with an anterior STEMI. He has the following characteristics:
- Current smoker
- History of claudication (untreated)
- His father died of a myocardial infarction at the age of 49
- Several family members with coronary disease before the age of 55
- Blood pressure: 128/75 mmHg
- Normal weight
- No tendon xanthomas or arcus
- Normal glucose levels
- LDL cholesterol 240 mg/dl (13.3 mmol/L)
