Experts in arrhythmia management to gather in Vienna, Austria, for annual EHRA congress

Arrhythmias and Device Therapy

Key takeaways:

  • EHRA 2025 to bring together experts across a wide range of disciplines including sudden cardiac death, ventricular arrhythmias, device therapy, syncope and bradycardia.
  • Research presented at EHRA will also explore how AI can be used in arrhythmia prevention and management.
  • The 120 sessions in the 3-day event will include live cases,  workshops on tracings, live heart anatomy courses, intracardiac echocardiography, and an ECG competition

Sophia Antipolis, 18 March 2025: This year’s EHRA congress, organised by the European Heart Rhythm Association, a branch of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), will take place in Vienna and online from March 30 to April 1.

EHRA 2025 brings together experts in various disciplines, including sudden cardiac death, ventricular arrhythmias, device therapy, syncope and bradycardia. The congress will also explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can improve prevention and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms.

Dr. Stylianos Tzeis, EHRA Scientific Programme Chair, Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist and Head of the Cardiology Department at Mitera Hospital, Athens, Greece says: “Cardiac arrhythmias, or abnormal heart rhythms, are often medical emergencies demanding immediate intervention. Our annual congress will delve into cutting-edge research on these conditions, addressing the critical issue of sudden cardiac death and its associated risk factors.”

Building on last year's success, EHRA 2025 will feature 120 sessions, including workshops on tracings, intracardiac echocardiography and entrainment, and live heart dissection courses. The extremely popular Simulation Village (where various scenarios for arrhythmia management practice are simulated by experts and volunteers) will make a return.

In addition to sessions featuring late-breaking clinical trials, new consensus documents and around 1000 abstracts will be presented, including work on the links between antidepressant use and sudden cardiac death, and how AI can use information from electrocardiograms to predict cardiovascular disease and mortality.

Professor Natajsa De Groot, EHRA Scientific Programme Chair based at the Department of Cardiology, Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, says: “Given the increasing prevalence of abnormal heart rhythms, particularly in aging populations, most families will likely have a member affected at some point. At the annual EHRA congress the world’s experts will gather to present and discuss the latest developments in order to prevent and better treat these disorders.”

In addition to its scientific mission, EHRA 2025 also has a sustainability mission. The congress is aiming to achieve the Austrian Ecolabel. This prestigious certification reflects the dedication of both EHRA and ESC to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
