FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sophia Antipolis, 8 February 2016: The pre-arranged scientific programme for ESC Congress 2016 is now online. The world’s largest and most influential cardiovascular event will convene in Rome, Italy, for the first time.
The five day congress will be held 27 to 31 August at the Fiera di Roma and is expected to attract more than 30 000 cardiovascular professionals and journalists from over 140 countries. Members of the press who register online by 31 July will avoid queues on site. Journalists should send proof of a valid press card, three recently published articles, and a completed 2016 embargo form to qualify for free registration.
More than 500 scientific sessions will explore 163 topics organised under nine themes:
- Basic science
- Intervention / peripheral circulation / stroke / surgery
- Hypertension / pharma
- Arrhythmias / pacing / resynchronisation
- Ischaemia / coronary artery disease / acute cardiac care / acute coronary syndromes
- Prevention / rehabilitation / sports / nursing / ageing
- Cardiac imaging / e-technology
- Heart failure / left ventricular dysfunction
- Valvular disease / pulmonary circulation / myocardial-pericardial disease / congenital heart disease and paediatric cardiology
The extensive programme features original research on cardiovascular disease selected from thousands of submitted abstracts. Novel clinical trial results will be announced in the popular hot line sessions which generate huge press interest every year. For the first time there will be special tracks for surgery, stroke, and e-cardiology. The e-cardiology track will highlight state-of-the-art developments in information and communications technology (ICT) including computer modelling in electrophysiology.
This year’s spotlight is “The Heart Team”. Professor Geneviève Derumeaux, Chair of the Congress Programme Committee, said:
“These expert sessions will emphasise the importance of teamwork and how all professionals and specialties come together to manage patients with cardiovascular disease.”
A new gladiator’s arena in the “Hub” will host interactive battles between opinion leaders on topical and controversial issues. After each debate the audience will cast their vote for the best argument.
ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines for atrial fibrillation and dyslipidaemias will be launched in Rome with the latest evidence and recommendations for patient management. Experts will present ESC guidelines on prevention of cardiovascular disease, which will be revealed for the first time at EuroPRevent, held 5 to 7 May in Istanbul, Turkey. Online registration is now open for EuroPRevent and closes one month before the congress. Stay tuned for news on the launch date of the ESC 2016 heart failure guidelines.
Press conferences will be held on topics of interest to journalists including clinical trials from the hot line sessions. Media activities are coordinated by the ESC Press Office and a local communications agency.
ESC Congress 2015 in London hosted nearly 33 000 participants including more than 27 000 physicians and around 600 members of the press. Register online now to take part in the biggest cardiovascular event of the year.
