New website for AFNET

The website of the German Competence Network on Atrial Fibrillation (AFNET) presents new content and design.

Atrial Fibrillation

17 December, Münster, Germany. The German Competence Network on Atrial Fibrillation (AFNET) – which started as a national research alliance over 10 years ago – operates today on an international scale.
Pan European projects such as the EAST trial and periodical consensus conferences in cooperation with the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) are examples of international activities. In order to address scientists, cooperation partners and interested public in Europe and beyond, the new website is largely available in English.
The “AFNET” section presents the network, its committees and cooperation partners. Under the “Atrial Fibrillation” headline, patients and their families will find information about atrial fibrillation (AF) (a heart rhythm disorder) and its treatment options. As the AFNET patient information web pages are available in German only, detailed information for patients in English is provided by a link to the patient website of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) www.afibmatters.org.

The “Research” section informs about clinical trials, registries, and other AFNET research projects. Dr. Gerlinde Benninger, AFNET managing director, explains: “In the new web presentation, ongoing projects such as the EAST trial or the EORP AF registry, are described in detail. It is a useful tool to recruit new physicians and patients to participate in the EAST trial for example.”
The “Results” section comprises publications and therapy guidelines as well as reports about the consensus conferences. Furthermore, the website offers information about the Association Kompetenznetz Vorhofflimmern e.V. in which physicians and other AF professionals can contribute to the network.
