Summary

In this talk you will hear from inspirational leaders who have carved out an advocacy role in one of the domains of advocacy identified by the ACNAP Advocacy Committee: patient level, professional level and policy level.

Following this session attendees will develop greater insights into what advocacy is, why it is important and how we can all work to become more effective advocates. The focus is on 'real world' examples, so expect to be inspired!

Learning objectives

After watching this Talk, the participant will be able to:

  • Appreciate why advocacy is important in CVD health, and how it can improve patient care and outcomes
  • Understand the ACNAP Advocacy Committee definition and conceptualisation of advocacy (domains, categories and levels of advocacy)
  • Through personal ‘case studies’ learn how patients, nurses and allied professionals, and policy influencers/makers, have practised / operationalised advocacy in a ‘real world’ context
  • Identify practical skills, tools and techniques that will enable patient, nurses and allied professionals to proactively engage in advocacy activities.
