Appeal regulations

ESC is committed to a high quality candidate experience and these appeal regulations reflect the ESC's commitment to consider appeals in a reasonable, consistent and equitable manner.

All candidates who have attempted any part of a certification programme (exam or logbook) have the right to appeal against their result, if they think this is necessary.

Appealing my exam results

All exam results are awarded in accordance with strict guidelines. In case you do not agree with the results that have been awarded to you, you may appeal the decision of the Certification Committee. Appealing your exam results is free of charge.

When should I appeal my exam results?

The deadline for submitting an appeal is 8 days from when the exam results are published.

Appeals submitted after that period will not be considered.

How to appeal?

You must send your appeal in writing to the ESC via the contact us form. Your appeal must be submitted in English.

The appeal must:

  • Include which examination it refers to
  • Clearly outline the grounds upon which the appeal is being submitted

Important: you cannot base your appeal on the grounds of technical issues that were not communicated to the ESC before the exam results were published.

Appeal process

  • The ESC informs the Certification Committee that an appeal has been filed and provides the Chair of the Certification Committee with all necessary information regarding the appeal.
  • The Chair of the Certification Committee will review the appeal and all documentation that is necessary for him/her to take a final decision. The Chair of the Certification Committee may decide to request support from his/her committee members.
  • The Chair of the Certification Committee has 4 weeks to provide his/her final decision.
  • The appeal decision is communicated to the appealing candidate by the ESC and is considered as final.

Appeal result

The appeal procedure does not guarantee a positive outcome. The result of such an appeal may be a higher grade, a lower grade, or no grade change.

In no circumstance will you be entitled to a fee refund nor damages.

If the Chair of the Certification Committee decides to confirm the fail decision, you will be required to take the exam again at a next occasion.
