Dear colleagues, dear friends,
As the holiday season is upon us and the festive spirit is spread everywhere, and we look forward to a great start in 2024.
Here is a look back from this great year and look forward to a new beginning in 2024.
2023 Year in Review
Important translational collaborations brought to light an important clinical consensus statement:
- Perivascular adipose tissue as a source of therapeutic targets and clinical biomarkers: A clinical consensus statement from the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation addresses the role of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) as a clinically relevant ‘biosensor’ and source of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of vascular function, which may guide precision medicine in atherosclerosis, hypertension, heart failure, and other cardiovascular diseases and its clinical applicability of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. Supporting young researchers and empowering them to advance the future of cardiovascular medicine is one of the pillars of our community.
- The ESC Congress is a unique opportunity for young investigators. The 2023 awardee of the Young Investigator Awards Session in Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation was Dr. George Abraham (University of Cambridge, UK) for his investigation entitled “Reduced trans-myocardial extraction of endothelin-1 in cardiac allograft vasculopathy” Education and dissemination of last breaking information and endorsement of joint meetings during Cardiac National Societies Scientific Meetings is one the aims of the Working Group.
- The Working Group participated in an official Joint Session at the 7 th Macedonian Cardiology Congress of the Macedonian Society of Cardiology that was held from 5 to 8 October 2023.
- We launched the Working Group Talk an educational event on "Non-statin LDL-lowering therapy and cardiovascular risk reduction: beyond plasmatic LDL-cholesterol regulation " focusing on the benefit of providing access to different available non-statin lipid-lowering agents for appropriate ASCVD patients together with a discussion of their impact on vascular inflammation, endothelial function, and clinical outcome. If you missed the live stream, don't worry. We’ve got a recording of the whole WG Talk ready for you here. To look forward in 2024, here is an anticipation on upcoming activities:
- We will launch a new Working Group Talk focusing on Coronary Physiology in the Setting of Chronic Total Occlusions. More information will be available soon.
- We will contribute the Frontiers in CardioVascular Biomedicine 2024, that will be held from Friday, 12 April - Sunday, 14 April 2024 Amsterdam - Netherlands. The Frontiers in CardioVascular Biomedicine is one of the most relevant platforms for basic and translational cardiovascular biomedicine and is an opportunity to meet one another again in person, exchange inspirations and start fruitful collaborations.
- New consensus statements in collaborations with other ESC Associations and Woking Group on important topics
In 2024 we are in the way of organizing much more activities with the aim to engage more actively and reach out to you. Stay tuned!
We take the opportunity of our last Newsletter of 2023 to thank you for being the heart of our community!
We also want to wish you and your family a wonderful Holiday Season and a healthy, happy, and peaceful New
Year 2024!
