The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) welcomes the election of Professor Karen Sliwa, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC, as president of the World Heart Federation (WHF), the first woman to hold this influential position.
Professor Sliwa is currently the president of the South African Heart Association, a member of the board of the South African Heart Failure Society and Director of the Hatter Institute for Cardiovascular Research in Africa.
The European Society of Cardiology looks forward to working closely with Professor Sliwa in her new responsibilities.
