Chairpersons and Discussants Guidelines

Heart Failure 2024, Lisbon & Online, 11-14 May

Invited Faculty must accept their role via the online service as indicated in the invitation email

We thank you for your consideration of these Guidelines and the Requirements for special session format.

Important information – a new feature this year will be implemented on each set of slides on site – 30 seconds before the end of the allocated time, the system will automatically go to the final slide. It is therefore requested to all speakers to prepare a Take Home message as final slide. This will allow each speaker equal time of presentation. The Chairpersons will also reinforce the time keeping and carefully monitor presentation and discussion time.

Chairpersons Guidelines

Chairpersons should ensure the smooth progress of the session, time management as well as encourages discussions and interactions between faculty members and the audience by allowing sufficient time for questions from the audience

Chairpersons:

  • Must be available for the entire duration of the session
  • Moderate the session and organise discussions
  • Deliver concluding remarks
  • Lead session briefings (if applicable, an invitation and instructions will be sent)
  • In order to contact the speakers involved in your session, please contact the scientific programme department hfscientific@escardio.org who will put you in liaison with the faculty involved in your session
  • To view the presentations, you can do so in the lecture room on the Chairperson Interface before the start of your session
  • Complete the evaluation at the end of the session on the Chairperson Interface

Discussant Guidelines

Please refer to your agreement form for confirmation of the presentation title, date, time of the session and specific instructions with regards to that session.

Discussants:

  • Must be available for the entire duration of the session
  • Sit on stage with all Faculty
  • Intervene in the discussions, challenge the presenters and animated discussions with the audience as moderated by the chairpersons
  • Attend session briefing (if applicable - an invitation and instructions will be sent)

Features for Chairpersons

Chairperson Interface - A dedicated computer is installed in the lecture room at the Chairperson table and aims to enhance visibility on the ongoing session and assist in the management of the session as well as collect evaluation and comments at the end of the session - Test this service on the Practice Stage in the Speaker Service center - the hostess in the lecture room will be available to assist you to use the Chairperson Interface.

A faculty lounge will allow you to relax, meet with colleagues and discuss your presentations

Desk & plugs are also available in the lounge if you need to work on your session.

  • Use Congress hashtag #HeartFailure2024
  • For tweets you deem pertinent for ESC to retweet, tag @escardio
  • Tweet about the major breakthroughs/conclusions/highlights, and with the most relevant images from the speaker
  • Avoid promotional posts ie 'session xyz starting now’ or content that does not give any scientific value ie 'Great talk from @abc…’ without adding her/his key messages, points etc
  • Quote the speaker, or tag their Twitter profile
  • Double check spelling and grammar
  • If you have a concern/complain don’t use social media to raise it. Talk to a member of staff. We are always at your service
  • Won’t have time to tweet? You can still retweet (RT)
  • Apply same ethics & etiquette you would in any other context

Video / Audio / Photos

The recording of video or audio during any session of Heart Failure 2024 is strictly prohibited. 

It is the responsibility of each presenter or speaker to notify the audience of any restrictions on the photography of the content they are presenting.  
Such an announcement must be made at the beginning of the presentation.
